There are three main types of dental emergencies treated by the Sana Oris multidisciplinary team.
- Acute pain that does not subside after taking a painkiller is the most frequent emergency, sometimes with a stabbing pain that is difficult to bear. This is the traditional “toothache”, with two main causes:
- pulpitis, an inflammation of the inside of the tooth, the pulp, located in the root canal.
- Abscesses of soft tissues (gum, alveolar bone), with general risks. The abscess can even break through into the mouth, with brutal elimination of the pus in the oral cavity.
- Dental trauma results in the loss of a tooth or a broken tooth, with the risk of further damage to the nerve or soft tissue. While it is necessary to act very quickly on a tooth expulsion, the urgency is somewhat less on a crown or an orthodontic appliance.
- Hemorrhage is uninterrupted dental bleeding, most often after dental extraction.
