Stomatology / Oral Surgery

Oral surgery or odonto-stomatology is a medical and surgical speciality. It treats most pathologies affecting the bones and mucous membranes of the mouth. In particular, it treats impacted teeth (canine, wisdom teeth), cysts and dental implants.

Why have oral treatment ?

Stomatological treatment may be referred by a general dental surgeon or carried out at the patient’s request.

This procedure covers specific oral surgery techniques, such as :
dental implants :

  • single or multiple tooth extractions, particularly of wisdom teeth;
  • cysts and tumours of the maxilla;
  • lesions and pathologies of the oral mucosa;
  • gingival pathologies, periodontology;maxillary joint disorders using orthoses and rehabilitation ;
  • sleep apnoea using corrective orthoses.

We have several practitioners trained in these specific techniques and skills.

THE VARIOUS ORAL SURGERY TREATMENTS

Before undergoing any dental treatment, a periodontal check-up should be carried out in several stages:

  1. Interview with the practitioner to identify your history, brushing habits, risk factors, fears, etc. ;
  2. Clinical examination for a dental, aesthetic and functional study of the entire bucco-gingival cavity;
  3. You will receive a report outlining the nature of the operation carried out and the oral treatment required, together with a tailor-made estimate.

In the vast majority of cases, a local anaesthetic is sufficient.

WISDOM TEETH EXTRACTION

The stomatologist may have to extract wisdom teeth, particularly if there is not enough room for them to grow in properly, if they cannot penetrate the gums (impacted or semi-in impacted molars) or if they are the cause of an infection.

IMPLANTOLOGY

Oral surgery can be used to place dental implants. This implantology procedure involves placing a dental implant made of a titanium screw in the bone, which is then covered by a ceramic crown, reproducing the appearance and function of the original tooth.

ORAL TUMOURS

Oral tumours are abnormal proliferative masses. The stomatologist can remove a tumour even if it is benign, because it may be embarrassing or damaging.

THE AFTER-EFFECTS OF ORAL SURGERY

The post-operative period and its duration vary considerably depending on the type of operation and the individual. In the days that follow, oedema and pain may appear as a result of post-operative inflammation (in the case of the extraction of deep-lying wisdom teeth).

The stomatologist may then prescribe antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to limit the risk of post-operative infection or inflammation. At our clinic, pain management tailored to each individual is one of our priorities.

THE RESULTS OF ORAL SURGERY TREATMENT

Our team of oral surgery specialists works closely with the referring dental surgeons to provide comprehensive care for patients and their various ailments.

The results of our clinic’s oral surgery treatments are highly satisfactory, thanks in particular to the efficiency and quality of the work carried out by our prosthesis laboratory.

You should consider regular consultations with your dental surgeon or stomatologist, at least once a year. The long-term results of treatment depend largely on regular follow-up and good oral habits.

THE COST OF ORAL SURGERY TREATMENT

The cost of oral surgery depends on the type of treatment. Your stomatologist and his or her team will tell you the price after an initial consultation. You will always be given a personalised quote.
